What is Head Start? Head Start is a national child development program for children from birth to age 5, which provides services to promote academic, social and emotional development for income-eligible families. Created in 1965, Head Start is the most successful, longest-running, national school readiness program in the United States. Head Start is a child-centered, family focused, comprehensive and community-based program. Head Start provides comprehensive education, health, nutrition, dental, mental health, social services and parent involvement opportunities to low-income children and their families. More than 21 million pre-school aged children have benefited from Head Start.
Our Mission The mission of the Bonner Springs Head Start, in partnership with USD 204, the community and participating families is dedicated to creating a comprehensive, culturally sensitive, nurturing, safe and a healthy learning environment in which children, families and staff are inspired to reach their fullest potential.
Our Philosophy The philosophy of the Bonner Springs Head Start is that all children can learn, all families should be supported, and all cultures should be respected. We endeavor to positively impact our community.
Our Goals The goals of the Bonner Springs Head Start are to:
• Enhance children's growth and development
• Strengthen families as the primary nurturers of their children
• Provide children with educational, health and nutritional services
• Link children and families to needed community services
• Ensure well-managed programs that involve parents in decision-making
