Again with the memes

Here’s one for Christmas. It’s nothing too complicated, but who’s reading blogs over Christmas, anyway? We have ten people at our house, so I’m certainly not. (via Cheeky Prof)

Christmas Eve Meme

  1. Do you ever eat fruitcake? Nope.
  2. Do you put out a Gingerbread House as part of your Christmas decor? I made a house last week for the first time in years. (Watch the video.) But decor? Ha, no. Gingerbread houses are for eating, not for decoration. Sheesh.
  3. What colors are your tree lights this year? White. They came pre-strung on the pretend tree we bought three or four years ago.
  4. How tall is your tree? Just short of the ceiling.
  5. Are all your gifts wrapped as of today? Yup, finished ‘em last night.
  6. What is your favorite Christmas cookie or candy? Fudge. John’s aunt made him some awesome fudge this year, and I’ve convinced him to leave it at my house.
  7. What do you expect Santa will bring YOU? I’ve already gotten a selection of Belgian beers and been promised opera tickets. Beyond that, probably clothes and books.
  8. Are you spending Christmas Day at home? Yes, at my parents’ house.
  9. What is your tree topper this year? An invisible star, as the tree-top is too thick to mount the real one on.
  10. Do you wrap your own presents to others? Um, yes. Isn’t that half the fun? Three quarters.
  11. How old were you when you gave up believing that Santa was a real person? I’m pretty sure I believed in a flesh-and-blood Santa at some point, but I don’t particularly remember a dramatic moment of disenchantment. Nor do I remember knowing “the truth” when my three-years-younger brother didn’t, and helping pretend for him. Who knows.
  12. Do you go to church on Christmas Day or Eve? Christmas Eve, full stop. We’re not even Christmas-and-Easter churchgoers.
  13. Do you have a real wreath (genuine green stuff)? We used to collect live greenery to put in the windows. Then the best piney spots nearby got built up, so we had to settle for some brownish boughs that my dad spray-painted green. The next year we gave up and bought plastic ones.
  14. Do you want a white Christmas? Not particularly. White means cold. In 2004 we had a wimpy sort of white Christmas, the kind where the snow only stuck to cars and sweaters. I know it snowed an inch or two once when I was little (1990-ish, maybe?), but I don’t know if it lasted until Christmas. I remember walking through the snow to deliver a Christmas present to our babysitter, so it was close.
  15. Favorite main course for Christmas dinner? Turkey.
  16. Do you cook on Christmas Day? My parents do.
  17. Do you ever wear a Santa hat? I don’t make a habit of it, no.
  18. Do you have a Christmas bedspread? Does anyone? I suppose my current bedspread could be construed as Christmasy, though that wasn’t my intention. It’s deep red.
  19. Your favorite Christmas CD or album? None in particular. My mom likes the ones by the Chieftains and Clint Black, so I end up listening to those.
  20. How long is your Christmas Card list? My what?
  21. Do you hang and stuff stockings? Yup. I decorated the stockings for my visiting Dutch relatives, plus John. I rather like the way they turned out—I’ll post a photo sometime.
  22. What is your favorite Christmas motion picture? Meh. I’m not a movie person, but if you twisted my arm I guess I’d say It’s a Wonderful Life.

That’s all, folks. It’s time for bed, as soon as the last few guests vacate my designated sleeping spot, the living room couch. We’ve been watching NORAD track Santa, and he’s already been to San Antonio, so we’re betting that’s as close as he’ll get. Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it, and happy time off from work/school to those who don’t!
