Blahhhhh

Well then. It seems I’ve missed the first day of NaBloPoMo. That’s unfortunate, but perhaps less unfortunate than the reason I wasn’t around, namely, that I have never been sicker in my life than I have been these last couple days.

I’ll spare you most of the details, but last night, after a day and a half of horrible dizziness and nausea, I ended up in the ER. I think I’m having a bad reaction to the hydrocodone the doctor prescribed me for pain. Even though I stopped taking the pills yesterday morning, I still felt like absolute shit today when I woke up, so I went to see my primary care doctor. They kept me there for 5 hours poking and prodding me, scanning my guts, and giving me more IV fluids. I got a shot in my butt*, yippee.

I didn’t mind the 5 hours, though. It was nice, when I’d been feeling so sick for a couple days with little relief, to really get a thorough work-up on all that might be wrong with me. Eventually they found nothing remarkable enough to treat except the dizziness, which they gave me pills for, and the nausea (butt-shot) and sent me home to my parents’ house, where I’m resting now and trying to gather up the motivation to eat something.

Apparently codeine makes my dad violently ill as well, which makes me think it really was the hydrocodone that did it. I did take quite a lot of it, though never more than the recommended dose.

I do feel a bit better than I did this morning, and definitely better than I did last night, when I couldn’t stop shaking. The crappy thing is that I’m scheduled to take the Physics GRE bright and early tomorrow morning, and I don’t know if I’ll feel up to it. I can’t reschedule, either, as it’s only offered twice a semester. We’ll see. I should be able to get into most of the places I want to go without it, but I’d like to take anyway, for kicks if nothing else.

Sam is sure glad to see me again. He’s been staying with my parents while I’ve been recovering at home, and my mom said he’d gotten a little depressed without me around. Awwww.

* The lab chick told me it was going in my “hip,” but that was definitely the lower-back part of my hip. Total butt-shot.
