He’s Lump, He’s Lump, He’s Lump, He’s in my Neck

Below the fold is the video I made of pre-excision Larry II, as promised. [And here it is in its original YT context.]

The surgery went fine—it took the whole scheduled 2.5 hours, but I did get to go home only half an hour after I woke up, which was great. The doctor said Larry was a cyst this time (last time he was four lymph nodes). Not just a cyst, but a surprisingly large cyst, even given his outward appearance—about the size of a goose egg.

The doctor also left a drain* in my incision, which didn’t happen last time, and which means I have an impressive wad of gauze taped to my neck that has to be changed every 8 hours and can’t get wet. I’m getting it out on Thursday, and the stitches come out next week.

I’m spending the rest of the day convalescing at home with the help of my wonderful boyfriend. I figured I’d try a game of chess while I was still a bit loopy from the anesthesia drugs to see whether they affected more than my memory and coordination. John won (as usual—he’s somewhat better than I am), but I managed to hold my own for a while, committing only a few near-blunders.

All in all I feel okay. I still get a bit dizzy when I stand up, and I think I’m running a slight fever, but I’m managing the pain with hydrocodone and can sit up and concentrate well enough to read and type, so all is good. I’m so glad the surgery is over. Pathology results come back in a week.

* Mine is a Penrose drain, which lets the blood and whatnot ooze right out into the gauze. It gurgles sometimes when I move.
