Decision!
If you go by the size of my inbox, I’ve actually regressed today. I got nine or ten emails, of which I’ve kept two: a picture my mom sent me from my cousin’s wedding which I plan to save somewhere, and the hours that registration counseling is open at the community college at which I’m taking summer courses. This brings me back up to fifteen.
BUT. Today I *also* got through my first day of summer school without a hitch, tutored a lesson, visited three apartment complexes, and pretty much settled on the one I like best. Barring any catastrophes, I plan to sign the lease tomorrow morning.
This is my third apartment hunt, and each time I’ve gone from first-look to lease in less than 24 hours. I HATE apartment hunting, so I like to make the process as quick as possible. Oh, you have a unit coming open next week? It has a roof and some windows? A toilet? GIVE ME SOMETHING TO SIGN HERE’S A HUGE CHECK.
Did I tell you I’m moving? Because I’m moving. June 8th. My lease expired here in Pearland, and I think it’s time to move back into town. I’ll be farther from my friends Wendy and Michael, which is a bummer, but closer to John, a bit closer to my parents, a wee bit closer to school, and in the midst of freaking civilization instead of twenty minutes south of it, all of which is good. The new place will be a step down in comfort from where I live now, but a step up in location.
Here’s a conversation I had today with a leasing agent or whatever they’re called, at my old apartment complex. I was dropping by to see if their rates had magically dropped since I moved out.
Me: Hi, I used to live here, and I’m moving back to this area, so I was wondering what kind of deals y’all have.
Apartment Chick: Okay, great! Do you have a price range?
Me: Well, last time my rate jumped up 120 dollars all at once, to 814, and that’s why I left. I’d say low to mid-700s.
AC: So you’re thinking maybe around 900-ish?
Me: Um.
AC: I have this great place opening up for 915.
Me: Yeah . . . that’s not gonna work at all. Thanks, though.

Pearland IS civilized, not merely south of it. Really. Most of us here wear shoes and have indoor plumbing.
