So that ice storm?

Was a bit overblown*. Some of the bridges and overpasses in the northern parts of town iced over, and I heard that quite a few folks skidded into objects and/or each other. There may have been fatalities from crashes or falling tree branches, but not more than one or two. Can you tell how superclosely I followed this story?

We down here in the Pee-Ell (nearer the coast) didn’t see any ice at all, by which I mean that I didn’t see any ice while walking Sam. Temperatures did drop below freezing, but not long enough or deeply enough to do any major damage.

On Tuesday afternoon my apartment complex stuck neon flyers in our doors with wording to the effect of “ZOMG EXTREME FREEZE ALERT! Go open all your cabinets and drip all your faucets RIGHT NOW and don’t stop until we give the all-clear! If you ignore this message, you will be LIABLE when all the pipes EXPLODE and flood your neighbor’s apartment!” I’m sure they’re required to do this by some sort of regulation, but it was still worth a chuckle.

School threatened to close both Tuesday and Wednesday and did in fact cancel early morning classes on Wednesday, but my first Wednesday class isn’t until 10:00, so the only consequence for me was a great parking spot. The weather really hasn’t been bad at all, and—surprise, surprise—I’ve been dressing appropriately all week (sneakers! scarves! gloves!), so I’ve rather enjoyed it.

I’ll do a rundown of this semester’s classes sometime soon—I know you’re all waiting with bated breath to hear the details of things that are utterly irrelevant to your lives. Yes, yes you are.

Today I’ve eaten little real food, but many sugary things, needlessly costly in both dollars and calories. *slaps self on wrist* Strawberry shortcake? Totally worth it. Milkshake? Less so.

* Sorry.

P.S. I added a new category today. In only the last three months or so (not gonna bother looking back further right now), I’ve posted about the weather EIGHT times. Welcome to the most exciting blog EVAR.

    Hey! I like reading about the weather- provided there is stuff about you thrown in there as well. And yes, before you ask, I watch the weather channel.

    At my apartment we are required to keep the thermostat set to 65 degrees or higher in order to keep the pipes from bursting. They also have recommended that we open up the cabinet doors to help heat the walls. Given that it has not gone above freezing here in the past week, I understand their caution …
