Wintry
Yesterday the temperature got up into the 70s, but for tomorrow the weather folks are all waving their arms about an ice storm. Ice pellets! Sleet! Freezing rain! (Is there a difference?) Think of the children!
School’s supposed to start tomorrow. It might not. We’ll see. All you folks in snowier climes are probably laughing at our precaution, but we Houstonians don’t know from sleet, y’all. Seriously. As soon as the roads ice up we all drive straight into the bayous for the heck of it. Also, few of us own gloves. Or warm socks.
The last big ice storm I remember was ten or twelve years ago. We got the day off school, sure, but the power went out, and a big tree fell across our driveway so we couldn’t go anywhere. As I recall, we spent most of the day with our noses pressed to the windows watching the tree branches droop impossibly low and marvelling at this whole “ice” thing.
I hope school’s cancelled tomorrow. I read the wrong calendar a few weeks ago and have been convinced ever since that the semester was starting on Wednesday. Finding out today that I needed to be ready tomorrow was a bit of a shocker.
I don’t know how Sam will take to the weather. He’s been okay with walks so far, albeit a little shivery, but he WILL NOT go out to potty when it’s raining. I don’t imagine freezing rain will be an improvement.

Sleet: Rain that is frozen while falling (or is it before falling?).
Freezing Rain: Rain that is falling while saying “Oh my, it is chilly out today.”

I remember that ice storm. It was beautiful!
I am having the same problem with my dogs about going out in this freezing weather and the rain to potty.. argh..
Stay warm!
