I would like to sleep now please thanks

I’m a bit swamped right now. My registration slot for the summer and fall terms starts at 11:00 tomorrow morning (when I’ll be in class, naturally), and I have only the vaguest idea what I want my schedule to look like. Last semester I was trying to get back on my feet and turn in a few passing grades, so I just closed my eyes and picked a few classes that looked interesting.

Now that it looks like I can handle being in school full-time without flaking, it’s time to consider some sort of “plan,” preferably one that leads to graduation.

The difficulty (besides the bitch-ass nitpicky paperwork involved in getting my transfer credits to count the way they should) is that I’m thinking of four possible majors—Classical Studies, English/Linguistics, Math, and Physics—of which I’ll probably complete two or three*. Trying to work out the logistics for all four at once (and all the possible subsets) is a headache. The mess has manifested in a matrix of half-index cards spread across my kitchen table**. They *would* be color-coded, but Sammy’s already found the other three Sharpies.

My current major-of-record, Classics, is actually the furthest from completion: 11 courses remaining, four of which must be taken in sequence. I might make this one into a minor, which would knock that eleven down to a more-doable four.

Anyway, I’ve got a lot of sorting-out to do. I’ve talked to two advisors (Physics and Classics), so that leaves only . . . seven million gajillion other people I need to see or call or have sign petitions: more advisors, testing services, departments I have transfer credit in, etc. It’s a blast. A long, tedious blast.

I also have a Latin assignment due tomorrow, the only one all semester, which is why I’m sacrificing an hour-and-a-half of precious registration time to go to class. We’ve had optional, for-your-edification assignments all semester long, and I’ve finished them all, usually at least a week before they were due, but now that an assignment actually counts for something, it’s the night before and I’ve barely started. And part of it has to be typed, and my printer is out of ink. Oy.

So all of that was supposed to be like a two-sentence lead-in to the following amusing anecdote. (I’m easily distracted.)

This morning I found a flyer stuck in my door announcing that my apartment complex will be showing a double feature this Sunday:

Chicken Little The Passion of the Christ

Bwahahaha. Easter celebration! All are welcome! Whether you’re a Bible-beater or a secularist heathen, our pairing of films is sure to offend you somehow!

Ok. I should be in bed by now, which means it’s time to get back to work.

* I can just see my 23-year-old self, with the piddly single major/single minor she’s managed to eke out, doubled over laughing as she remembers these lofty goals. Three majors?! Guffaw! But dream big, right?

** They used to be on the floor, but I don’t think “my dog ate my fine arts requirement” is going to fly as an excuse when I suddenly realize in my last semester that I’m three credits short of graduation.
